PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Field Safety Manager is responsible for coordinating and performing training in all Safety and Health areas; managing safety data sheets; writing Safety and Health programs for approval by upper levels; conducting walk-through inspections; participating in accident investigation and/or emergency response; understanding recordkeeping, life safety, reporting and tracking close call incidents, Divisional safety communications, and other applicable regulations and standards.  The Field Safety Manager is a field position and will require field visitation no less than four to five days per work week.

 

TYPICAL DUTIES

 

  1. Create a work environment that reflects a commitment to protecting the health and safety of the employees and subcontractors.

 

  1. Oversee and enforce compliance with all OSHA, EPA, DOT and all other responsible Federal, State and Local jurisdictional regulations pertaining to company operations.

 

  1. Maintain awareness of OSHA, EPA, DOT and all other Federal, State and Local changing regulations and make suggestions to management in regard to updating company polices to maintain compliance.

 

  1. Conduct regular onsite hazard and risk assessments of projects and processes.

 

  1. Report directly to the Corporate Safety Director.

 

  1. Working on jobsites in the Heat and Cold elements.

 

  1. Travel out of state is required.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Prepare training programs related to OSHA, EPA, DOT and all other Federal, State and Local regulations.

 

  1. Provide support and training materials to superintendents for use in weekly toolbox meetings.

 

  1. Provide employees safety training to ensure compliance with company policy and government regulation.

 

  1. Conduct or coordinate regular onsite reviews and audits of all project locations.

 

  1. Provide technical assistance to field management and craft workers to resolve health and safety issues.

 

  1. Actively investigate all incidents, accidents and near miss instances. Report investigative findings to management and field employees in an effort to prevent similar occurrences.

 

  1. Maintain Hazard Communication program, update MSDS sheets and indexes.  Conduct project audits for compliance with Hazcom policies.

MINUMIM SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS

The skills required of a Field Safety Manager include the ability to recognize known and predictable hazards associated with the type of work performed.  The ability to implement new work processes to eliminate or reduce hazards. This person must possess good leadership and communication skills along with the ability to manage multiple projects.  A good knowledge of construction terminology and basic knowledge of industrial hygiene, engineering principles and regulatory compliance law is necessary.  This person should possess basic computer skills and be well organized. The Field Safety Manager must have strong training and interpersonal skills and the ability to exhibit positivity, passion, integrity, and responsibility. The Field Safety Manager must have a current Driver’s license with a good driving history.
